How to know if blower motor is bad

YourMechanic, to determine if the . The blower motor resistor is the component directly responsible for controlling the blower motor fan speed. If the resistor shorts or fails, it may cause the blower motor to remain stuck on one fan speed. Discrepancies in the electric circuit for the blower, such as bad control switches or resistors, can halt all function, or prevent operation at certain speed settings.

Smoke originating from the vent registers, or from under the dash, can be signs of catastrophic blower motor breakdowns.

There are several symptoms that appear when the resistor of the blower motor is going bad.

Start car and see if blower motor works.

If fuse blows again, check for loose circuits. Make sure the circuit breaker is not tripped (or the fuse is not blown). In that case, check the windings in . Automotive engineers use blower motors to force heated or cooled air through the interior of the vehicle to adjust interior temperatures. If your blower motor does not operate as designe your vehicle is likely not very comfortable to drive.

With some very simple tests, it is possible to determine if the problem is with the blower . You can also check the other speed taps to see if the motor is really bad.

I go over Troubleshooting such as what temperature the Thermal Overload opens the electrical circuit if the capacitor or start windings are bad , which wire the thermal . You never know what you will find! Video for Licensed HVAC Professionals ONLY, Please do NOT attempt any Procedures without Professio. To diagnose this, you may have to crack open the heater . If the furnace is receiving power, turn up the thermostat, and see whether the blower motor starts within the next few minutes. A faulty capacitor will not be able to hold the charge necessary to run the blower motor properly.

Simply replace the belt to get the blower motor operational again. Use caution, but check the blower motor to see if it is hot. A hot blower motor , which indicates an overheating problem, will require replacement.

If less than volts, check your battery voltage directly - refer back to the 3rd paragraph of this write . I was tempted to knock on their door to tell them people gotta sleep. Good Video, and yes, I too wish you had shown us how to remove and replace the blower motor. Find out how to use one relay to test another with help from an ASE- certified mechanic in this free video on troubleshooting car problems.

Winter is obviously the worst time for your heat to give out. Blower Motor Replacement: When Good Parts Go Bad. Even if an HVAC system is providing adequate amounts of cooled or heated air, the system will not be effective if the air is not moved throughout the building.

If you suspect your motor is bad , you should check to make sure before you replace it. Begin diagnosis by shutting off the power to the furnace. Then, try to spin the blower by hand.

If it will not spin freely, check to see if it has oil ports on the blower.
