Working of dc shunt motor

In Electrical terms, parallel is generally denoted as shunt. Same voltage is applied to both shunt winding and armature in this motor. A conveyor belt is the classic example, sometimes it is empty, and sometimes it has many heavy boxes.


The DC shunt motor can keep the boxes moving by increasing torque. Because of which it finds wide spread industrial application where ever constant speed operation is required.

In DC Shunt motor the field winding is connected in parallel to the armature winding , so the field current is constant, because supply voltage is fixed.

In conventional dc machine field winding is mounted on stator and the armature winding is on.
