The resistance of shunt field winding . A machine that converts dc power into mechanical energy is known as dc motor. ARMATURE- The armature consist . They consist of permanent magnets and loops of wire inside. DC power systems are not very common in the contemporary engineering practice.

DC motors convert electrical into mechanical energy.

Ions contain CHARGES that create electric fields.

These opposite electric fields produce imbalanced forces necessary to move the charges through the circuit. Stator has field winding and is excited by DC current. DC Motors Windings exist on stator and rotor. Rotor windings are excited through commutator and brush set.


Frequent maintenance is required due to commutator and brush.


The easiest electric machine for torque and speed control. Power often expressed in horsepower = 7Watts. The first two are highly controllable, and usually what you would use in an application. FLUX CONTROL— Speed of dc motor is inversely prop.


Motor action: A force is induced . Gas turbine, diesel engine, electrical motor.


Field and armature windings are either connected separately. In North America, this cycles times per second. If the motor seen to the right was used it would spin at around RPS . Select the proper motor type for various applications.
