I got lucky and found the drain tube clogged.
You can remove the entire dash and AC box and replace the seal (not fun, and around $7in labor), or you can install an auxiliary drain hose onto the tube. This is more common than you might think and so easy to fix. The problem with this vehicle was that the air conditioning condensation ( excessive water) from the drain tube was leaking in on the drivers side floor board.
Remove the air intake hose (clamps) and set aside, you should now be able to see the drain.
Check for flow and seal around the hose. If you find no problems, you may need to dig into dash. Apparently the AWD models configuration may not allow easy access to the drain hole so that it can be snaked free of debris or cleared with pressure.
