Compare squirrel cage and slip ring induction motor

Squirrel Cage Induction Motor vs Slip Ring Induction Motor. Cylindrical laminated core rotor with heavy bars or copper or aluminium or alloys are used for conductors. SQUIRREL CAGE INDUCTION MOTOR : 1. Constructional feature is very simple.

Starting torque is poor, while running torque is better.

Power factor is moderate(–).

The slip ring motor has an external resistance circuit for controlling the speed of the motor.

Whereas in squirrel cage motor , it is not possible to add any external circuit because the bar of the motor is permanently slotted at the end of the ring. In slip ring induction motors the rotor is wound type. In the motor the slip rings , brushes are provided. Compared to squirrel cage rotor the rotor construction is not simple.

I would really like to see that you also cover single phase induction motors in detail.

This is not possible in squirrel cage induction motor. The ends of the rotor bars are shorted together by rings at each end of the rotor. Slip ring motor can be used for high starting torque applications.

There is no external electrical connection to the rotor. Due to presence of slip rings and brushes the rotor construction becomes somewhat complicated therefore it is less used as compare to squirrel cage induction motor. However, no power is applied to.

Both types of IM have their pros and cons and characteristics. Depending on that they have different applications in the day to day life. Generally the squirrel cage motors have low starting torque but good running performance and hence it dominat. The slip ring induction motor has two distinctly separate parts, one is the stator and other is the rotor.

The stator circuit is rated as same in the squirrel cage motor, but the rotor is rated in frame voltage or short circuit . Know about the different winding slots, lamination of the stator and its construction.

Also appreciate the rugged construction of squirrel cage rotor and know the spectacular reasons for the skewed . This article is devoted to slip ring induction motors. As discussed earlier, a slip ring induction motor is an asynchronous motor, as the rotor never runs in . Difference between Synchronous motor and Induction motor . In squirrel cage rotor, the rotor bars are permanently short-circuited with end rings.
